Art On Istanbul presents Ömer Emre Yavuz’s solo exhibition Interactions at Art On Pera
from November 11 – December 2.
Competence allows for chance, enabling form to reach its final state as if revealing a
dialogue between the artist and the material. The works in Ömer Emre Yavuz’s
Interactions exhibition are the outcomes of a theoretical approach to sculpture. Yet
engaging with these works requires understanding the material: porcelain, clay, and
metal, alongside found objects, all play a role in the installation.
The exhibition space should be conceived as an area of intervention permitted by the
material itself, at times functioning as a plinth, at other times as a tool. The artist, never
losing the sense that sculpture is part of nature, develops his practice in a manner
consonant with the nature of each material. The parallel between cause and effect arises
from the continuous motion inherent in the primary organic material—clay.
The exhibition consists of site-specific works, created in dialogue with the space.
Interventions are made with modesty, avoiding the assertion of authority over either the
viewer or the environment, and focusing more on movement than on mere visual
observation.
In Interactions, Yavuz confronts elements intrinsic to sculpture while alleviating the
weight of theoretical frameworks, doing so with the awareness that his work is
inseparable from the natural world.
