Art On Istanbul meets its visitors with the group exhibition "I'm here to tell you about
destruction" featuring the works of Damla Sari, Deniz Özuygur, Sena Başöz and Seniha
Ünay at Art On Piyalepaşa between April 9 - 6.
Throughout history, women have developed various forms of struggle against masculine
norms. These struggles have taken shape under a wide range of different identities and
have varied depending on women's experiences. Alongside their role as mothers, those
who worked as laborers or who came to the fore as activists struggled to transcend the
boundaries imposed by society and to promote change. While some experienced the
responsibilities and challenges of being a mother, others struggled to survive in the world
of work or actively fought for social change. However, they have all come together towards
a common goal, striving to overcome gendered norms and constraints and moving
towards redefining and empowering women's social roles. These struggles reflect the
richness and diversity of women's experiences throughout history and have played an
important role in the advancement of society and equality.
Taking its title from Nina Simone's "Revolution" song "I'm here to tell you about
destruction", the exhibition brings together various works by four different women artists
exploring the female experience through their collective power and different perspectives.
