Kaan Küley (b. 1978, Bursa) graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2005. The artist’s ongoing, multi-layered relationship with sculpture can be considered in two main phases. His early works are predominantly figurative, distinguished by the visible traces of modeling and casting left intentionally on the surface. In his later works, the figurative tradition points to a new layer in which it is concealed within the notion of the “perfect figure.” Küley notes that his difficulty in expressing himself through words has led him toward visual means of expression, while sculpture offers a field grounded in the act of “touch.” In his practice, he prioritizes experimentation and trial-and-error over the final result. In his recent works, which also incorporate drawing, the process began with sketching his own sculptures; this evolved into an exploration of repetition, fragmentation, and the sensation of an internal “other,” forming the conceptual basis of his current drawings, paintings, and sculptural compositions.
