art ON Istanbul is set to host abstract painter Kemal Seyhan’s exhibition "Blue and Black" starting October 20. Alongside the artist’s familiar monochrome canvas works, the exhibition will also feature his paper works and can be visited until November 20.

The most distinctive feature of Kemal Seyhan’s canvases is the spatula marks and colors on the seemingly coordinated system of thin, translucent layers. Over time, the signature grid-like horizontal and vertical lines in his works undergo a transformation, and the colors extend beyond the boundaries of that system. The layers Seyhan applies on top of one another give each painting a sense of depth. His painting technique involves nearly 30–50 layers of paint.

Kemal Seyhan is preparing to meet art lovers with his first solo exhibition at art ON Istanbul, "Blue and Black" on Saturday, October 20.

Kemal Seyhan graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Vienna and has been living and working in Istanbul and Vienna since 2004.
