Art ON İstanbul presents the first exhibition of 2014 with Olcay Kuş, on view from January 8 to February 7. Drawing from street art, Olcay Kuş aims to create a new world in his works; in the exhibition titled “Game Center”, he envisions the world as a “playground” and ongoing events as “new games.” His works contain references to life and its many parameters, offering hidden readings under the theme of “play.”
Olcay Kuş describes his approach to the exhibition as follows:
"What kind of games do you like? Imagine a place where everywhere is a playground. East, west, north, south… You can play according to your taste, age, profession, gender, or even clothing! After all, it’s a democratic space. But one thing to remember: you are also part of the game. You can be played with, and you can play along. Lies, cheating, fraud, deception… everything is allowed. Killing, cutting trees, in short, everything is allowed. There is only one rule: no thinking, no generating ideas, no objecting! Game Center is an exhibition based on this concept. The recent turbulent days, conflicts, and never-ending political GAMES are reflected here. We move so quickly through news and events… rushing into new adventures without knowing or understanding them. Like a game… With this exhibition, I am also playing my own game, playing with those who engage with me. Even if there isn’t a specific topic I am attacking or trying to explain, the exhibition responds to the subjects or images that affect me, disturb me, or that I cannot ignore during my creative process..."
In addition to his mixed-media paintings on canvas, Olcay Kuş’s sketches are presented for the first time in this exhibition. “Game Center” will be on view at Art ON İstanbul from January 8 to February 7.
