Art ON Istanbul will host the thematic group exhibition “GELDİĞİM YER – GİTTİĞİM YÖN” (WHERE I COME FROM – THE DIRECTION I GO) from July 15 to September 12, 2014.
As the title suggests, the exhibition features a selection of works from both the early and recent periods of the invited artists. Considering artistic production as a continuous process, there are certain commonalities, linguistic and thematic similarities, between each artist’s starting point and their current artistic stance. These shared elements elevate creative production beyond mere repetition, placing it at the center of different experimental and expressive attempts. The exhibition’s title and conceptual framework are inspired by İlhan Berk’s poetry collection “Atlas” (first published in 1976).
Berk, regarded as one of the most important representatives of modern Turkish poetry, also engaged in painting, drawing, and sketching alongside his literary work. The “poetika” he developed together with his poems and paintings was based on the continuity of artistic production, indicating a structure that gives momentum to the concepts of “beginning” and “continuation.”
At this point, the exhibition “GELDİĞİM YER – GİTTİĞİM YÖN” brings together early and contemporary works of the invited artists, offering viewers a perspective on the transformations and evolutions within the continuity of creative production.
