Mustafa Sevinç’s first solo exhibition, Hep Daha Fazla, Hep Daha Az (Always More, Always Less), can be seen at Art On İstanbul’s Tepebaşı space from June 21 – July 7, 2018.
In this debut solo exhibition, Sevinç presents performative sculptures and installations that explore the boundaries of individual existence, focusing on the process of becoming between life and death. By tracing the passage of time within this process, the artist examines the relationship between the inner and outer worlds of the individual, as well as the concept of memory. Using materials such as water, sponge, glass, wood, and iron, Sevinç invites the viewer to sense the effects of a slowly unfolding process that does not need to reach a defined conclusion. The gallery space, transformed into a sterile laboratory-like environment, frames the interactive material changes throughout the exhibition within the viewer’s temporal presence. The artist represents the unpredictable nature of existence through a calm, poetic, and contemplative image.
In Hep Daha Fazla, Hep Daha Az, Sevinç metaphorically addresses the perception of time underlying existential concerns and the confrontation of this perception through the individual’s relationship with the inner and outer worlds. Starting from simple structures and compositions, he questions the representation of appearances while guiding the viewer, within this tranquil-yet-tense atmosphere, to reflect and perceive the unseen.
