Art On Istanbul invites visitors to Art On Pera from March 17 to April 22, and subsequently

to Art On Piyalepaşa, for Mert Diner’s solo exhibition Uncanny States.

In Uncanny States, Diner opens up his artistic practice developed over recent years, shaped

by uncertainty, the desire for knowledge and clarity, as well as concealment, stains, and

voids. The artist describes the works in the series as follows: “The paintings in this series

are two-dimensional notes in time, capturing a process in which I dared to look at what I

did not know and what I had hidden, and the states created by confronting a vast

unknown during this process.”

Amid the uncertainty, loss, and mourning we are experiencing, we feel the urgency of

creating anew and striving together in many aspects of life. In this context, this previously

planned exhibition highlights how Diner’s exploration of uncanny states such as

uncertainty and failure resonates with our current condition and mood, while also

pointing to the potential to persevere and to be together despite everything.
